Today I am going to show you some books that are coming out this year that I am very excited about. Most of these are new books in series I love or a new series from an author I like. I may have missed some books, but here are 10 I am looking forward to.
Firstly, I just wanted to mention some books that have already been released and are on my radar: Morning Star by Pierce Brown, Night Study by Maria V Snyder, Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys and All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders.
The Bone Queen / Alison Croggon
This is a prequel to the Pellinor series and comes out March 3rd. Cadvan has been exiled from the School of Lirigon for a grievous crime that unleashed the Bone Queen, and so the Light is under threat. Does Cadvan have the strength to go up against the Bone Queen? I absolutely love the Pellinor series, and I was beyond excited when I found out there was a prequel.
This is a short story collection and is set to be released 8th March. I have not read anything from this author, but I thought a collection would be a good introduction – I am also interested in his Dandelion Dynasty series.
Flamecaster / Cinda Williams Chima
This is the first book in her new series Shattered Realms, and is released on April 5th. To be honest don’t know much about this, but I love the Seven Realms series so was excited to hear about this new series that is set in the same world. I believe it follows two perspectives as they go against the King.
Sleeping Giants / Sylvain Neuvel
This is a first book in a new series and is released on April 26th. 17 years ago a young girl in South Dakota fell through the earth and then wakes up below ground on what seems to be a giant robot hand. It is told exclusively through transcription of interviews and is a debut novel. This just sounds very intriguing.
Age of Myth / Michael J. Sullivan
This is the first book in the Legends of the First Empire series and is released on June 28th. Set in a world where humans worship Gods called Fhrey, but when a god falls to a human blade everything changes. Sullivan’s Riyria Revelations series and Riyria Chronicles series are both amazing so I am very much looking forward to this – especially since the first chapter was included in The Death of Dulgath e-book.
The Thorn of Emberlain / Scott Lynch
This is the fourth book in the Gentleman Bastards Sequence and is released on July 21st. A new chapter following Locke and Jean – that is all I’m going to say because I don’t want to spoil anything. I am very much looking forward to continuing this amazing series.
Hag-seed / Margaret Atwood
This is a retelling of the Shakespearian play The Tempest and is released on October 11th. I have really enjoyed the two books I have read by Atwood (The Handmaids Tale and The Penelopiad) and I am intrigued by this retelling. I am also interested in Angel Catbird which is a graphic novel by Atwood also coming out this year.
Goldenhand / Garth Nix
This is set to be released in October. The novel will follow Lirael and Nicholas after the events of The Creature in the Case. The Old Kingdoms trilogy is one of my favourite series, and a continuation following Lirael is a very exciting prospect for me. At the moment there is no set date and no cover.
Successor’s Son / Trudi Canavan
This is the third and final book in the Millennium’s Rule trilogy and is set to be released this year. It has no set release date and no cover at the moment. I have loved this trilogy so far and am very much looking forward to getting my hands on this sometime this year.
The Book of Dust / Philip Pullman
This is a collection of short stories and will feature Lyra as the main character. It is set to be released this year, but has no set release date and no cover at the moment. I am beyond excited for this.
I may do another post about upcoming books because there are so many books, so if you have any recommendations please let me know. What are you anticipating this year?
See you next time
Pippa
