Hello again, I hope you are all well. Today I thought I would continue with my recommendations series by talking about some of my favourite science fiction books. I’ve only recently started to read science fiction books and I am loving trying out a load of books from this genre. I thought it was about time that I shared with you all the books I have loved so far. With this post I am going to be trying something a little different. I have linked each book to the Wordery site using my affiliate link (I get a small commission) so you can get your hands on these books if you want. As you may be aware I am currently unemployed and trying to sort myself out so it would be great if you feel able to support me. No pressure though – you don’t have to use the links. Anyway onto the books.
It is dated – it was written in the 1960’s after all, butt is a science fiction classic for a reason. It is still very accessible to the modern reader and it can be enjoyed by a variety of ages and readers. I didn’t have a big issue with the writing, although the speech is perhaps a little outdated. Once you are a few chapters in though, you should be used to it. The setting of this book is one of my favourite things about it. This book is set exclusively on one planet, Arrakis and I found this dessert planet to be a very interesting one. The plot is pretty straightforward and follows a kind of ‘Chosen One’ pattern – I enjoyed every minute of it. I have a full review of this awesome book, which you can check out here.
This series is one of the first science fiction series/books I read, and I absolutely love it. I have to admit that the first few books are definitely the strongest in my opinion (I love John and Jane), but the entire series has been so enjoyable and engaging. The plot is compelling, well written and entertaining, and the characters are all I pleasure to read about. I also really enjoy the dialogue throughout the series – the humour in this series is suited to my tastes. I love a good bit of sarcasm. Another book by John Scalzi that I loved is Fuzzy Nations. I highly recommend both of them.
I picked this one up on a bit of a whim. I saw it on Netgalley and it sounded interesting, so I requested it. I am very glad I did. This is a mix between the thriller genre and obviously the science fiction genre. I felt that this mix of genres was done very well, and I found that this book was incredibly entertaining. I had no issues with the plot, so I found it easy to get into the flow of the writing and plot. The story was perhaps a little predictable, but I still enjoyed the journey of it. I hope that there is more books with these characters, but I don’t know if any are planned. Overall I very much enjoyed this book.
This is the first book I read by this author and it is also my favourite. Firstly, the concept is fascinating, and kind of eerie, when you consider the evolving medical capabilities of today. It is science fiction, but you can see that this kind of world would be possible in our own world at some point in the future. The writing is a pleasure to read. I love the complex characters, as well as the different relationships/friendships. Not only is this an enjoyable read, but it is also a very interesting one – it raises alot of interesting questions. Overall I loved this book and I would highly recommend it, especially if you enjoyed The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.
I know this trilogy get’s quite a mixed reaction from readers, but I very much enjoyed it. The first book is definitely the weakest, in my opinion. I still enjoyed it though. There are so many plot twists in this trilogy – I was caught off guard multiple times throughout reading it. I loved every minute of it – the characters are great and the plot is engaging throughout. I highly recommend checking it out. I am also excited for the sequel series.
I’ll leave it at that for this post, but I do have 5 more science fiction recommendations in the work. So keep your eyes open for that :). Please let me know if you have any recommendations of science fiction books, as I am keen to try out more. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.
