Hi guys, I hope you are all well. I thought since we’re now halfway through the year I would do the mid year freak out tag. This is such a great tag to look back on the first half of the year and see what I’ve been liking or not liking. Let’s get started.
1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2016.
This is kind of tough as I’ve read quite a few fantastic books… One of my favourites would have to go to Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine Thien. I can’t just mention one book though so two other I’ve loved are The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams and Sins of Empire by Brian McClellan.
2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2016.
Probably The Bear and the Serpent by Adrian Tchaikovsky, which is the second book in the Echoes of the Fall series. I thought it was such a great continuation from the first book and I am so excited to see how things progress in the next book.
3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. This sounds quite intriguing but I’m going to wait until it’s release in paperback or maybe see if I can get it at my local library. I’ve the first book in her series and didn’t love it if I’m being honest, but this sounds like it might be more my thing.
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
Well I would say I have two: The Book of Dust by Philip Pullman (October 19th) and Successor’s Promise by Trudi Canavan (September 19th). I am so excited for both of these books.
5. Biggest disappointment.
The first book that comes to mind is Guns of Dawn by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I think I had unrealistic expectations of this book – I had loved three other books by this author and so I fully expected to love this one too, but I didn’t.
6. Biggest surprise.
Probably Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine Thien. I didn’t know that much about it and didn’t really know what to expect, but I ended up loving this book. Other than that I don’t really have an answer for this one.
7. Favourite new author (debut or new to you).
This has to go to Juliet Marillier. I read Daughter of the Forest back February and I loved it, but I’ve still only read four books by her. I fully intend on checking out a load of her other books. I think her writing is fantastic and the characters are so well written. She is definitely a new favourite author.
8. Newest fictional crush.
To be honest, I don’t really have any fictional crushes. Probably a bit boring but hey…
9. Newest favourite character.
Again I find it very hard to choose just one so some of my new favourites include Noon from Ninth Rain, Vaelin from the Raven’s Shadow trilogy, as well as Sorcha and Liadan from the Sevenwaters trilogy. There are quite a few more but I think I’ll leave it at that :).
10. Book that made you cry.
I very rarely cry at books – I don’t even remember the last time I cried at a book. Having said that, a book that definitely hits you in the feels was Son of the Shadow by Juliet Marillier. That book is pretty emotional at times.
11. Book that made you happy.
Maybe Knight’s Shadow by Sebastien de Castell. It is such a entertaining series and it is such a joy to read them – I have only read the first two books in the series but I have loved both of them. I like that they are quite light and they’ve got good humour. I can’t wait to get to the next book.
I have to say I like doing this tag as it’s a great way to look back at my reading over the first half of the year. I’ve had a pretty good reading year so far – hopefully that will continue on over the next 6 months. There a quite a few new favourite books. Have you guys read any of these books? I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.
