Hi guys, I hope you are all well. Today I have another 5 reasons to read style review and this time I’m going to be talking about one of my favourite historical fiction, The Siege by Helen Dunmore. I realised I hadn’t shared it with you guys so I thought I’d take this opportunity to review it. Let’s get started.

Overall Rating / ★★★★★
If you enjoy historical fiction books, then you need to check this one out. Set during the siege of Leningrad in 1941, this book focuses on one family as they try to survive the siege and a harsh winter.
This book is so well written. There are some fantastic descriptions of the city, both in terms of the appearance and how it felt.
It is an interesting and intimate look into this time period. Thousands of people died during this siege but this book focuses on a small group of people. It is a grim read, but it is well worth it.
The characters are complex and interesting. Their development throughout the book is so well done and you come to really care about them.
Despite the grim nature of this book, this is one of my favourite historical fiction books, so of course I want to recommend it to you guys.
That’s it for today. There is a sequel to this book, The Betrayal, which I haven’t read yet but it is on my TBR. Have you guys read this book? I would love to know what you thought. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.
