Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of book, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This weeks topic is things that make me want to pick up a book, which I’ve shortened to buzz words. I don’t have much else to say so let’s just get started.
-
Animal companions
-
East Asian influences
-
Epic fantasy
-
Military fantasy
-
Intrigue/politics in a fantasy world
-
Dragons
-
Assassins
-
Mythology/folklore
-
Strong female protagonist
-
A blurb from a favourite author
That’s it for today. What words make you want to read a book? I’d love to know if we have any similar ones. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.

I’m surprised I didn’t think of the blurb from a favourite author point! There are so many times that I’ve seen a name I adore on the front cover of a new author’s work and I’ve decided to take a risk on it for that reason alone.

I’m a total sucker for books with some mythology and folklore worked in.

Animal companions are wonder additions to a story. I mentioned them in my post this week as well.

ANIMAL COMPANIONS, YESSSS. That always gets me intrigued, as do AI characters (not that I’ve read many such books, but). Basically, I usually prefer the non-human characters over the humans 😂

I read a lot more realistic fiction than fantasy, so unsurprisingly my buzz words are a lot different. Here’s a couple just off the top of my head- mental illness, child narrator, dysfunctional families, disabilities, GLBTQ issues, atmospheric, unreliable narrator, stream-of-consciousness, surrealism, non-human narrator, black humor, autism spectrum… Cool idea for a list! 🙂
