Hi guys, I hope you are all well. So you may or may not have been aware that I was away on holiday for the last two weeks of June and I thought I would share some of what I did in Crete. It was a pretty chilled holiday, but we did manage to go out and do a few things to. On the chill side, I managed to read 6 books while away and I played on my Nintendo switch a bit too. It was a little to hot for me at times but it was a great holiday. Here are some pictures.
One of my favourite things we did was going to the Amazonas Park. It’s a small zoo in the north east side of the island and it’s main purpose rearing and reproduction of rare species, in particular parrots. While the birds, butterflies and a few other monkeys are great to see, the main attraction of this site is feeding time of the macaques and the ring tailed lemurs. You cannot touch the macaques but you can feed them with a bag of popcorn. The highlight for me was definitely the lemurs. I enjoyed every second of being in their enclosure. One thing I will say that some of the enclosures are quite small and it isn’t cheap at 10 euros per person, but when you considered their effort in protecting these species it makes it slightly better.
Next up, we visited the Takis Shelter, which is basically a rescue centre for dogs and cats. It currently houses over 300 dogs and I loved being able to spend some time with a few of them. I’m hoping to go out and volunteer here next year. Also don’t worry the dog pictured above isn’t actually trying to eat my face.
An overnight trip we did was to Santorini. To be entirely honest, I think this island is kind of overrated, but I’m glad I’ve been there. We went towards the end of June, so not peak season, but it was still incredibly busy. As someone who hates crowds, I can’t even imagine what it would be like in peak season (July and August). It is picturesque and there are some great photos you can take, but that’s about it really. There is a great archaeological site (Akrotiri) to the south of the island, which is well worth a visit if you are interested in visiting a Minoan settlement. We stayed in a little cave house overnight. As we were going to bed my sister found a cockroach in her bed and we spent around half an hour trying to find and kill said cockroach. Safe to say, none of us got to sleep very easily after that. Cockroaches are the worst.
That’s it for today. Have you guys been on holiday already or do you have any planned? I’d also love to know whether or not you’ve been to Crete too. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.
