This is the second book in the Shadow of the Fox trilogy and it follows closely after the events of the first book, Shadow of the Fox. Like the first book this is a Japanese fantasy book that mainly follows three character perspectives.

After enjoying the first book, I fully expected to enjoy this instalment too and I wasn’t disappointed. We are back with Yumeko, a young half kitsune girl, and her crew that includes a ronin and a member of the royal family. Like the first book this follows two main character perspective with a third added occasionally throughout the book. I really like the characters of these books so it was great to be back with them in this instalment. In my opinion they do lack a little depth but I still think there well written and I enjoy reading about them.

While I did enjoy the plot overall, it was quite slow moving and it does kind of feel like a filler middle book at times, if that makes sense. Most of this book is set up to the final chapters and the third book, which is fine, but it meant that some sections dragged a little. Having said that, this was still a pretty quick read for me and I did really enjoy it. If you enjoyed the first book, then I think you’ll enjoy this one too.

Overall I really enjoyed this instalment and can’t wait for the concluding book, Night of the Dragon. It is set to be released March 31st 2020. Have you guys started this trilogy? I’d love to know what you thought. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.
