April Wrap Up

Hi guys, I hope you are all well. It’s the end of another month which means it’s time for my fourth monthly wrap up. I read 6 books this month, 3 of which were the first 3 books in a series. We’re still in lock-down here in the UK so I’ve been doing a fair amount of reading and playing video games. Let’s get started with the mini reviews.

The Kingdom of Liars / Nick Martell / ★★★

The Legacy of the Mercenary Kings – book 1

Length /

Publisher / Gollancz

While I thought this was a good debut book overall, I didn’t love it as much as I wanted to. It has a pretty slow start and by the time it picks up I just wasn’t invested in the story or characters. Check out my full review.

Along the Razor’s Edge / Rob J. Hayes / ★★★

The War Eternal – book 1

Length / 281 page

This book follows Eskara Helsene, a fifteen year old Sourcerer who is sent to the Pit after being on the losing side of the war. While I liked this one overall, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. This was mainly due to the rather frustrating main character – she is only fifteen but she makes so many stupid decisions and thinks quite highly of herself. I just couldn’t become invested in her character. It’s still worth checking out if you’re interested.

The Mad Lancer / Brian McClellan / ★★★★

Novella – 85 pages

Occurs 12 years before the events in Sins of Empire

This is a novella focused on one of the best characters in this world, Mad Ben Styke.

I love this character and this world so I knew I was going to enjoy this one going in. If you guys haven’t started the two series set in the Powder Mage world, then you should definitely check it out.

A Tale of Stars and Shadow series / Lisa Cassidy / ★★★★

Publisher / Tate House

I read the first three books in the A Tale of Stars and Shadow and they were all fantastic. The first book was a little slow to start but after a couple of chapters I was fully invested. I will have a full review of the first book up soon. I highly recommend checking this series out.

That’s it for today. I would have got more reading done if I didn’t get distracted by video games, but I think I got a pretty good balance between both this month :). How was your reading month? Let’s chat in the comments. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.
