This is the fifth (and penultimate) book in the Legends of the First Empire series by Michael J. Sullivan. It is set in the same world as his Riyria Revelations and Riyria Chronicles series, but in the distant past. Like the previous book in this series, this is a multiple perspective story.
I’ve really enjoyed the first four books, so I had high hopes for this one and I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint. It was great to be back in this world and with these characters. It did take me a little while to get back into the story, but I blame that on myself – I should have reread the previous books before continuing with the series. Sullivan’s writing keeps getting better with each of his books and I find them to be easy and enjoyable reads, this instalment is no exception.
The development of the characters continue to be so well done and the progression of the story was compelling throughout. There is so much depth to this world and I loved that in this instalment we get to know even more about the folklore and history of it. I can’t go into the story, because of spoilers, so all I will say is that I loved the continuation of the plot in this instalment and I cannot wait to see what is in store of the final book in the series.
That’s it for today. I can’t wait to read the final book in this series, Age of Empyre, which came out at the beginning of May. Have you guys started this series? I’d love to know what you thought. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.
