Hi guys, I hope you are all well. It is once again time for another monthly wrap up. June was a bit of a mixed month for me, in terms of some personal stuff. I didn’t get a whole lot of reading done – part of that is due to me getting distracted with playing the Last of Us 2. I did still manage to read 3 books in June though. Anyway, let’s get onto the mini reviews.

The Angel of the Crows / Katherine Addison
Publisher / Tor Books
Length / 448 pages
Released / 2020
This book is Sherlock Holmes fan-fiction. It retells some of Holmes adventures but with a supernatural twist. I will be writing a full review for this, so I’m just going to say that I enjoyed this book, just not as much as I hoped.

The Rage of Dragons / Evan Winters
Publisher / Orbit
Length / 544 pages
Released / 2019
This is the first book in the Burning series (African inspired fantasy) and the author’s debut book. I thought this was a fantastic introduction to this world and characters. It did take me a little while to get into it, but after roughly a quarter of the way through I was invested. The characters are well written, the story is engaging and I loved the world. The story is perhaps a little predictable at times but still really enjoyable.

The Black God’s Drums / P. Djèlí Clark
Publisher / Tor.com
Length / 112 pages
Released / 2018
This is a novella set in New Orleans and follows a thirteen year old girl called Creeper. I have a full review of this up, so I’m going to keep this short. I thought this was a fantastic novella – I loved the setting, the characters are so well written and the story is compelling throughout. I definitely recommend checking this one out.
That’s it for today. I’m planning to get a lot of reading done in July, since I have quite a few books from Netgalley I need to read and review. I might get distracted by another video game though, so Ghost of Tsushima comes out in July and that game looks amazing. Did you guys have a good reading month in June? Let’s chat in the comments. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.

I felt the same way about The Angel of Crows. It was enjoyable but parts of it just didn’t end up working for me.
