T5W: Books You Will Never Read

Top 5 Wednesday was originally created and run by Lainey aka gingerreadslainey (Youtube channel) but it is now being run by Sam aka Thoughts on tomes (Youtube channel). Each week there is a different topic. You can check out the groups Goodreads page here for any more information and the future topics. Before I get started with my list, I just wanted to say that these are in no particular order because I’m rubbish at choosing favourites or in this case least favourites. Onto the topic of books I will never read. Before we start I just want to say I apologise in advance if I offend anyone with these choices but I am just being honest with my opinions. Let’s get started.
  • The Fault in the Stars by John Green – I just have no interest in this book and I know what happens anyway so it seems a bit pointless to read it. I also don’t read a lot of contemporary.
  • The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas – I really tried with this series. I read the first two books and attempted to read the third book but I gave up. I just don’t get the love for this series. Hate is a strong word, but I come very close to it with Celaena. I don’t think I will ever read A Court of Thorns and Roses either.
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J. K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany – Although I like the Harry Potter series, I don’t love it and I have no interest in reading this. The fact that it is getting very mixed reviews just makes me even less inclined to read it.
  • Fifty Shades of Grey by E L James – This just does not appeal to me in any way. I can safely say I will never read this book. Not only is the story completely unappealing to me, but I have also heard how badly it is written. Definitely not my thing.
  • The Winds of Winter by George R. R. Martin – Technically this is probably cheating abit as it is not released yet, but I know I won’t read it. I have read all the books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series but I don’t see myself continuing with the series. I wanted to like it, more than I actually liked it in the end. This is definitely a series I won’t be completing.

I swear I come to do these lists and my mind goes completely blank pretty much every time, but I got there in the end :). Normally I wouldn’t like to say never, but I think with these books it’s pretty safe to say that I will never read them. There are plenty of other books I am excited to get to, so I will definitely be reading them instead. Let me know if you have any similar answers or even if you would say you are never going to read a book… I hope you are having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.

  1. I don’t think I’ll ever read The Cursed Child because I think a lot will be lost in translation from the stage. I’ve never read EL James or GRRM. I’ve been in love with SJM’s books from the beginning, but the ToG series is starting to lose me and I enjoyed ACOTAR, but I’m obsessed with ACOMAF.

Life’s too short to read crappy books, so it’s good you recognize what you don’t like.

    Great post!!

    1. Thank you!! Yeah I totally agree about the Cursed Child! Oh really? So will you be reading EoS? I have heard so many people raving about ACOMAF! Hope you are having a good day!

  2. I’m with you on Fifty Shades of Grey and also The Cursed Child. I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum with HP though – I love the Harry Potter series, but I have little to no interest in picking up The Cursed Child. I’m not keen on the script format, and also the fact that it wouldn’t feel like authentic HP.

    Great list!

    1. Thanks! Fair enough! It also feels a bit too hyped! It is not a book, it’s a play! So of course its not going to be the same! And I don’t know why there making it a big thing about a “new Harry Potter” book! If that makes sense! Hope you are having a good day!

  3. I read The Fault in the Stars, I cried and enjoyed it but will never read it again or pick up another John Green book. I will only read The Cursed Child if I find myself having zero books in my TBR and that is unlikely to happen ever. I tried to read 50 Shades to find out what the fuss was all about, I only got a chapter in before I got so bored. It reminded me of trying to read Twilight where I couldn’t get past the first paragraph. However I will read The Winds of Winter if it ever gets released, I am a huge fan of ASOIAF but I won’t stress myself out waiting for the next book. I really enjoyed this tag!
